There is a constant need for feline blood donors to assist cats in need of critical medical care. Just like in human medicine, blood transfusions can be a crucial lifeline for our feline companions during emergencies, surgeries, and chronic health conditions. Your cat can be a hero and save lives.

Criteria For Feline Blood Donors

For your cat to qualify as a blood donor, they must meet the following criteria:

• Age: Between 1-8 years old
• Weight: Weighs more than 10lbs
• Spayed/Neutered: Must be spayed or neutered
• Indoor Only: Must be an indoor-only cat
• Disposition: Calm and gentle temperament
• Health Check: Up to date on annual exams and annual blood work, including CBC & Chemistry
• Echocardiogram: Recommended for all repeat donors
• Disease-Free: Must be FelV/FIV Negative
• Vaccinations: Proof of up-to-date Rabies and FVRCP vaccines
• Medications and Preexisting Conditions: Not on any medications for at least 2 weeks and no preexisting health conditions
• No Previous Blood Transfusions: Must not have received a blood transfusion in the past
• Donation Frequency: At least 90 days (about 3 months) since the previous donation
